A 30-year-old man is missing after a suspected crocodile attack while fishing in the Sadong Jaya river, with search and rescue operations now underway.

SADONG JAYA: A 30-year-old man is missing and feared to have been attacked by a crocodile while fishing in a Sarawak river.

The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call at 12.40 pm regarding the incident under the Sungai Buloh Bridge in Sadong Jaya, approximately 40 kilometres from Kuching.

According to witness accounts, the victim, identified as Mohd Faizal Abdilah, was fishing along the riverbank with a friend.

He is said to have waded waist-deep into the river to cast a net when the suspected attack occurred.

Search and rescue operations are currently underway in the area.
