The police have arrested a local resident and recovered 120 gram of heroin from his possession during a special checking and patrolling operation conducted in the city.

Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma stated that the accused has been identified as Vinod Sharma, alias Vicky, resident of Nigaha Mohalla near Shani Dev Mandir, Mehli Gate, Phagwara.

According to SHO Amanpreet Kaur, a police party was present near Jhatkaiyan Chowk as part of routine patrolling and checking of suspicious persons when an informer provided specific information regarding the accused. The informer reportedly stated that Vinod Sharma was standing near King Café close to Goal Chowk, Phagwara, carrying heroin concealed in a black-coloured packet kept in the right pocket of his trousers and was allegedly waiting for customers to sell it.

Considering the information reliable and credible, the police team immediately informed senior officials and proceeded to the spot. During the raid, the suspect was apprehended and subjected to a search.

Madhvi Sharma stated that during the search, 120 gram of heroin was recovered from the possession of the accused. Following the recovery, a case under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act was registered against him.

The accused was taken into custody and further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the contraband and possible links with narcotics supply networks operating in the region.
