A MAN previously accused in a high-profile child kidnapping case in Iskandar Puteri last year was brought before the Sessions Court here today on a new charge of physically sexually assaulting another young girl.
Leang Win Son, 32, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read in Mandarin before Judge Madihah Zainol.
According to the charge, Leang is accused of committing physical sexual assault against a nine-year-and-nine-month-old girl inside the toilet of a coffee shop in Taman Iris, Kulai, at approximately 7.30 pm on 14 September.
The offence is framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farah Wahida Shahudin opposed bail, citing Leang’s ongoing trial for multiple previous offences, including a kidnapping charge under Section 363 of the Penal Code, unlawful confinement under Section 346, and possession of child pornography under Section 15(a)(ii) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act.
“The accused is currently undergoing trial for those charges, with hearings scheduled for 6 and 7 October,” she said.
“He was previously released on bail but has since been charged again. The offences are grave and the risk of reoffending remains high, especially involving vulnerable members of the public.”
The court also heard that in July, Leang pleaded guilty to five alternative charges under Section 10 of the same Act for possession of child pornography.
In his defence, counsel Nur Zafirah Norizan from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) requested bail and asked the court to refer her client to a psychiatric facility for mental health evaluation.
She told the court, “The accused currently earns RM50 a day assisting his mother and has cooperated fully with authorities in his ongoing court proceedings.”
The court denied the request for bail and fixed 6 October for the next mention of the case. - September 24, 2025
