Man remanded over foiled teen kidnapping case tied to RM2 million ransom demand

A MAN in his twenties has been remanded for two days beginning Thursday to assist police in investigations linked to the kidnapping of a teenage girl in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, on 10 April.

Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof confirmed that the remand order was issued by Magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali earlier this morning.

“The suspect was arrested at 3.30 pm yesterday in Klang, Selangor. The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961,” Ahmad Dzaffir said in a statement.

The case made headlines last week when it was reported that a teenage girl had been abducted, with the kidnappers allegedly demanding RM2 million in ransom.

In an earlier development, a male suspect believed to be involved in the abduction was shot dead by police in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang.

Since then, police have detained six other individuals – including three women aged between 20 and 31 – who have been remanded for 14 days beginning 14 April. On Wednesday, another woman in her 50s was also remanded until 30 April as investigations widen.

Authorities have yet to confirm the motive or whether the ransom was paid, but the case is being treated with the utmost seriousness given the organised nature of the crime.
