Man seriously injured after alleged parang attack by adoptive uncle in Pasir Puteh

A 44-YEAR-OLD man sustained severe injuries to his right arm and head after he was allegedly attacked with a machete by his adoptive uncle in Kampung Kulim, Pasir Puteh, on Tuesday evening.

District Police Chief Superintendent Zaizul Rizal Zakaria said the incident occurred at about 6.30 p.m. when the 55-year-old suspect went to the victim’s home and allegedly attacked him several times with a parang.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was motivated by an old grudge,” he told reporters on Wednesday. “The suspect is the adoptive brother of the victim’s mother and lives nearby. The incident is believed to have stemmed from a long-standing misunderstanding.”

Police received an emergency call from a member of the public reporting the assault. Officers arrived at the scene shortly after, but the suspect had fled. He was later arrested at his residence not long after the attack.

The victim, who suffered serious injuries, was taken to Hospital Tengku Anis for treatment.

Superintendent Zaizul Rizal said the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt using a weapon.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days from Wednesday following an order issued by Magistrate Mohamad Aiman Azahan at the Pasir Puteh Magistrate’s Court. - October 29, 2025
