A MAN already serving time for a drug offence has been handed an additional six-year jail term and one stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court here on Monday after pleading guilty to raping a teenage girl and having sexual abuse videos of her on his mobile phone.
The new sentence was ordered to run concurrently with his existing five-year imprisonment for a drug-related conviction. The court also mandated that Khairul Azhar Mohd Yusof, 33, undergo rehabilitation counselling and police supervision for a year upon his release.
Khairul Azhar pleaded guilty to the charges before Judge Datin Surita Budin.
The first charge was for the rape of a female teenager, aged 17 years and six months, which occurred on May 28, 2025, at approximately 12.30 am at a hotel in Bahau, Jempol. This offence falls under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which allows for a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping.
For the second offence, he was found in possession of two videos containing sexual abuse material of the same victim on his mobile phone. This took place on July 31, 2024, at about 9.30 pm at the Criminal Investigation Division office of the Jempol District Police Headquarters. This constitutes an offence under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
The court heard that the accused, who was the victim's boyfriend, had taken her out and given her alcoholic drinks, causing her to feel "dizzy and sleepy," before taking her to the hotel and raping her.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni requested a "commensurate sentence" due to the sexual nature of the crime against a child and the possession of obscene material. She also noted that the accused was currently serving a "five-year jail sentence and one stroke of the cane" for an offence under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 since August 1.
The court ultimately imposed a six-year jail term and one caning for the first charge, and a three-year jail term for the second charge, with both sentences running concurrently from the date of his conviction on Monday. - September 29, 2025
