A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a minor boy and throwing him into a drain suspecting that the teenager was involved in a relationship with his cousin’s sister, officials said on Friday.

The accused has been identified as Mandeep, alias Monu, a resident of Uttam Nagar West. He was arrested by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Crime Branch near Bakkarwala Mor on Najafgarh-Nangloi Road, they said. He was wanted in connection with an attempt to murder case registered at the Paschim Vihar East police station.

The police said a PCR call was received at the Paschim Vihar East police station on May 19 regarding a severely injured person lying in the rain. The caller informed the police that the victim had been stabbed and his organs were protruding.

The victim was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri. Before losing consciousness, the victim reportedly told the police that two persons, identified as Shivam and Monu, had attacked him.

Following the statement, a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at the Paschim Vihar East police station.

During investigation, the Crime Branch team got information regarding the movement of the accused in the Bakkarwala area. Acting on the tip-off, the team laid a trap and apprehended Mandeep.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that his cousin Shivam was enraged over the victim’s alleged relationship with his sister. The duo allegedly decided to “eliminate” the boy and began searching for him.

On May 18, the accused spotted the juvenile on Arya Samaj Road in Uttam Nagar and persuaded him to accompany them for a conversation. They allegedly took him near a drain in Meera Bagh, where they repeatedly stabbed him with an intention to kill.

Believing the victim had died, the accused allegedly threw him into the drain to hide the body before fleeing the spot.

The police said Mandeep had recently come out of jail after serving around three years in previous robbery-related cases. Police records show that the accused has previously been involved in three criminal cases, including armed robbery and assault, registered at the Anand Parvat and Patel Nagar police stations. Further investigation is underway.
