A 12-year-old disabled girl in Penang was abducted by a man in his 60s who stole a car and drove off while the child’s mother had briefly stepped out of the vehicle.

The mother had left the engine running as she got out to hand something to her husband at his workshop in Kepala Batas. The girl remained in the car, and it wasn’t long before the mother realised both her daughter and the vehicle were missing.

The couple, with help from a friend, searched the nearby area but couldn’t locate the girl.

Fortunately, the woman had left her phone in the car. Using the Life360 app, which can track a phone’s location in real time, they managed to trace the vehicle and the girl to Butterworth, about 25 minutes from Bayan Lepas.

Police from North Seberang Prai arrested the suspect, who has a criminal record that includes seven drug-related offences.

Thankfully, the girl was found safe and unharmed, though she was taken to the hospital for a medical check-up, according to an official statement from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

The case is currently being investigated under Sections 379A and 376 of the Penal Code.
