
TAWAU: A 57-year-old man suffered burns while escaping a house fire that broke out along Jalan Apas in Tawau on Thursday morning.
The blaze, reported at 6.50am, destroyed one semi-permanent house completely and damaged another by about 60 per cent.
Firefighters from Tawau station, assisted by community fire teams, brought the flames under control within half an hour using water from a nearby hydrant.
The victim sustained burns to his hands and legs and was rushed to Tawau Hospital after receiving initial treatment at the scene.
A total of 23 firefighters, backed by police, civil defence, and Sabah Electricity personnel, wrapped up the operation by 8.35am after ensuring the area was safe.
