SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 - A 54-year-old man who attacked a policeman at the Batu 9 police station compound in Kajang last Saturday is believed to have acted impulsively due to depression stemming from family problems.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the suspect attempted to stab an officer on duty at about 12.10 am, Berita Harian reported.
He said the suspect initially entered the police station compound as though he intended to lodge a report before suddenly pulling a knife from his motorcycle’s storage compartment.
“The suspect then thrust the knife towards the right side of the officer’s abdomen, but the victim managed to dodge the attack and the blade only struck his belt.
“The suspect was arrested following a struggle, during which another policeman sustained injuries to both palms while assisting,” he said.
Naazron said the suspect was believed to be suffering from depression due to family problems.
The man will be charged at the Kajang Magistrate’s Court today under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force against a public servant.
Earlier, the media reported that a policeman narrowly escaped serious injury after the suspect allegedly attempted to stab him as he opened the gate at the Batu 9 police station.
During the incident, the suspect arrived on a motorcycle before allegedly attacking the officer when he approached him to ask the purpose of his visit.
