A man was caught trying to pump RON95 fuel into his Singapore-registered vehicle in broad daylight recently.
Thankfully, his illegal act was brought to a halt after an alert attendant saw what had unfolded and quickly stepped in to confront the man.
Tried pumping RON95
According to SG Road Vigilante, the incident took place at a petrol station in Klang yesterday (June 20).
In a video posted on Facebook, it showed the man refuelling his Audi Q5, which bore a Singaporean number plate, with the yellow nozzle.
However, the refuel was cut short when an attendant appeared and exchanged words with the driver before removing the nozzle and putting it back into the pump.
The man didn’t stop the attendant and was seen rummaging in his wallet as the former continued to seemingly chide him.
It’s not known what was said to the driver and how much fuel he had pumped into his car.
Condemnation
As expected, the clip attracted a wave of anger from Malaysians, who slammed the man for “robbing” subsidies meant for locals.
One speculated that the man was possibly a Malaysian who had obtained Permanent Resident (PR) status in Singapore.
Under Malaysian law, owners of foreign-registered vehicles are liable to jail time of up to three years and/or a fine of up to RM1 million if convicted of purchasing RON95 fuel.
Previously, this punishment was only limited to petrol station operators.
