Manchester United's push for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong saw them end their consultancy deal with Ralf Rangnick.
The German, who was United's interim boss from December until the end of last season, was originally set to have a significant say on transfers moving forward, but plans were abruptly abandoned once club officials got a good look at Erik ten Hag, says Goal.
The former Ajax manager reportedly blew United's hierarchy away during the interview process and after holding their first transfer summit back in May - where Ten Hag named his targets and outlined his long-term plans - the club realised they no longer needed Rangnick's expertise.
It's understood that De Jong's name was mentioned frequently during the summit and Ten Hag detailed plans to try and coax the midfielder to Old Trafford - even encouraging the club to 'wait' for him if they failed to land the 25-year-old this summer.
