Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says Harry Maguire deserved his start in victory over Everton.
Maguire was selected ahead of Raphael Varane.
Speaking to BT Sport, Ten Hag bemoaned the club's "crazy" schedule, lambasting the workload his players are under.
He said: "We have the most crazy schedule of all the Premier League teams, we have three games to cover in six days, which is not right, but we have to deal with it."
United meet Sevilla in the Europea League this week.
