It's claimed Ten Hag would still prefer to come back in for Barcelona's De Jong, but club supremos prefer 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund hero Bellingham.
United failed to land Holland ace De Jong in the summer despite having a £64million bid accepted.
And Ten Hag has stayed in touch with Barca about the midfielder.
The Dutchman rates De Jong as a “virtually irreplaceable" part of his jigsaw for reviving the Red Devils.
