Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has expanded on his decision to retire from international football.
Varane has been criticised in France for his choice.
But he told Canal+: "I gave everything both physically and mentally, but at the very highest level it's like a washing machine.
"You play all the time and it never stops.
"We have crowded match programs and play all the time. Right now I feel like I'm suffocating and that the player is swallowing the person."
