Manchester United investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe has not shied away from his attempts to buy another Premier League club.
While Ratcliffe has touted himself as a United fan from the time he was a child, he did attempt to purchase Chelsea.
When Roman Abramovich was forced to sell the club, Ratcliffe's bid was beaten by Todd Boehly's offer.
Asked by the Manchester Evening News about that bid, Ratcliffe stated: Well, because it's a simple answer to the question. We have a collection of quite interesting sports clubs, Formula 1 America's Cup, cycling etc. but we've always recognised that the biggest sport in the world is football and the Premier League is the biggest league in the world.
So we've always had an interest in having a Premiership club but they don't come up very often and at the time we had no inkling that United might ever be sold, so that's we finished up in that Chelsea equation.
But it pops its head up and all the American hedge funds and venture capitalists chased it very, very quickly. We spent quite a lot of time thinking about whether we really wanted to go there. By the time we got there, we were too late in the process."
