Newcastle United will be entitled to a lot of compensation if they were to lose sporting director Dan Ashworth.
The club rate Ashworth very highly and wanted to keep him for the long-term.
However, the Manchester Evening News and other outlets have stated that Ashworth wants to go to Manchester United.
Per Chronicle Live, Ashworth does not have any easy get out clause in his contract.
The Red Devils would have to pay a lot of compensation, while there would be a gardening leave period when Ashwoth cannot work.
Earlier this season, Ashworth told reporters about the Magpies: "(My future is) same situation as Eddie (Howe - manager), I think. I'm really happy, it's a brilliant city, club and project.
"I'm thoroughly engaged in throwing myself into all of those things and really enjoying the challenge."
