Manchester United great Paul Scholes is convinced Ajax attacker Antony would be a positive addition.

Speaking ahead of United's win at Southampton, Scholes told BT Sport that he understands why the 22-year-old wants to make the move.

"You expect him to want to leave Ajax and come to Manchester United, the manager's done it, a couple of players have done it," Scholes explained. "You have to ignore the money these days, the money is ridiculous for every single player.

"He looks a talented player and we could all say it's a little bit too much for him but the money's too crazy and it's stopping people from moving." The former United midfielder then added: "The only difference is Champions League football.

"Do you want to play Champions League football for Ajax who aren't realistically going to win it? Or do you want to go to Manchester United and play Europa League football.

"It's a no brainer for me. My worry is United look desperate."

Scholes then added that he felt sorry for Antony during this situation but questioned if he would be good enough.

"I feel sorry for the lad because he wants to come to Manchester United, one the biggest clubs in the world, he's at a big club in Ajax - don't get me wrong - but this is the real club, a proper football club seen around the world," he concluded.

"He's got great skills, it's a player the manager likes, I do feel sorry for him but we'll see what happens. Is he good enough?

"He hasn't scored many goals in the Dutch league or made many assists in the league. (Eight goals, four assists) Which is not a lot in the Dutch league, it's harder over here.

"The Dutch league is easier than here, we've seen that, he'll be tested properly if he comes over here."
