The 18-year-old is one who fans are hoping gets his chance to impress boss Erik ten Hag.
Mainoo was outstanding in pre-season, but suffered an ankle injury that has kept him out until now.
The teenager is not involved in the Youth League game against FC Copenhagen this week.
Per the Manchester Evening News, he is still being eased back into action and did train with the U19s.
United do not want to do anything to derail the player's development, such as aggravating an injury.
