Santos striker Marcos Leonardo is on Manchester United's radar.
La Gazzetta dello Sport says United are competing with AS Roma for Leonardo before the transfer deadline falls next week.
Roma are in talks to sign Leonardo in January with Santos reluctant to sell now as they battle against relegation.
However, United have stepped in with an offer of 17m up front plus 4m in bonuses.
Leonardo is a Brazil U20 international and has scored almost 50 goals with Santos.
