Manchester United legend Roy Keane says Andre Onana will continue making mistakes, but how he recovers from them will determine his future at Old Trafford.

Keane concedes Onana hasn't had an ideal start to life at Old Trafford as David de Gea's successor.

He said on the Overlap: They should have kept him (De Gea).

Can they not get him back? He's free, isn't he? No, he had to go, didn't he? He was making too many mistakes.

Obviously he's (Onana) had a really poor start. We talk about positions at any big club (and) the goalkeeper at Manchester United has to have a huge personality to deal with mistakes.

But he's already made six, seven or eight big mistakes that have led to goals. It's not been a great start. It's a long way to come back. We have seen goalkeepers come to United and have had a tricky start and we have worked with some really good goalkeepers, but there seems no way back for them."

He added: I remember speaking to different goalkeeping coaches at Manchester United and they would always say, keepers make mistakes, but it's how you deal with it at Manchester United. Peter (Schmeichel) made loads of mistakes at Manchester United, but what he did was recover very quickly and that's the problem with the goalkeeper."
