Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and his staff were pleased after their first day of preseason training on Monday.
United's players had a two hour afternoon session at Carrington under Ten Hag and his senior assistants Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren.
Ten Hag addressed the combined group of 15 first-team players and Under-21 squad members at the start of the session introducing himself and outlining his approach.
United's players – some of whom had arrived before 9am - spent more than two hours out on the training pitches, with the lengthy ball session not finishing until after 4pm.
A source told the Mirror: “There was a real energy about the place. Everyone was raring to go.
“Erik was buzzing around the training ground, meeting a lot of people, before taking training in the afternoon.
“There's always a certain amount of routine on the first day back, with fitness and health checks, but they were out on the grass doing ball work in the afternoon."
