Manchester United chiefs see Steve McClaren as a long-term coaching option.

Whether manager Erik ten Hag stays or goes, United want McClaren to stay, says the Mirror.

McClaren was brought back to United in 2022 by Ten Hag, having previously been No2 to Sir Alex Ferguson.

The former England coach is close to new United chief Sir Ian Brailsford and in their wish to bring long-term consistency to their coaching, McClaren is viewed as someone to remain with the staff.

McClaren invited Brailsford to address his squad when Derby County manager and they've stayed in contact ever since.
