PETALING JAYA: A 35-year-old man who went viral for allegedly driving recklessly in a vehicle bearing “Bomba Rescue” markings has a history of psychiatric treatment for bipolar disorder, police said.
According to a report by Kosmo!, the suspect was arrested in Taman Bandar Puteri Jaya after police received a report about the incident two days ago.
Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said preliminary investigations found that the suspect had been receiving psychiatric treatment since 2017 but had not sought treatment at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) for the past two years.
“The suspect has no previous criminal record, and his urine screening test was negative,” he reportedly told reporters at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters today.
Hanyan said police had also seized a vehicle and several items related to the case.
“The suspect has been remanded for one day from today to assist in the investigation. He is currently being held in a ward at HSAH while further investigations are carried out,” he said.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Noor Farah Hazwani Osman at the hospital this morning.
He added that police had opened two investigation papers under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant and Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
Kosmo! reported yesterday that the Kedah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) had confirmed that a private vehicle which went viral on social media for displaying fire and rescue markings and special warning lights was not an official departmental vehicle.
The department also said the vehicle did not belong to any Voluntary Fire Brigade (PBS) in the state.
Earlier, a video circulated on social media showing a red car bearing “Bomba Rescue” stickers and fitted with special warning lights being driven recklessly, drawing the ire of other road users.
