THE actions of a man who damaged public facilities and injured security personnel, which went viral on social media recently, are believed to have stemmed from stress after missing a flight.

The individual is also believed to have had a disagreement with his wife regarding child custody in the incident at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2.

KLIA District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M Ravi, said they received information regarding the incident before arresting the suspect on April 5 at about 10.30 am at the KLIA Terminal 2 International Exchange Counter.

According to him, the arrest involved a 33-year-old foreign man who was waiting for a transit flight to Hatyai, Thailand.

"Initial investigations found that the suspect is believed to have missed his flight and had a disagreement with his wife regarding childcare issues.

"The suspect then acted aggressively by smashing the counter glass, knocking over the flight sign until it broke and throwing a drink bottle at the counter," he said in a statement on Saturday.

He said the suspect's actions also caused a security guard on duty to suffer injuries.

He added that the suspect had pleaded guilty at the Sepang Court on April 7.

"The charge was made under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to one year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both.

"In addition, the suspect was also charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act, which carries a fine of up to RM100," he said.

Earlier, a video went viral on social media showing a foreign man going on a rampage and damaging signs at the KLIA Terminal 2 counter, as well as acting aggressively towards security personnel. – April 11, 2026
