Man with knife threatens migrants aboard small boat bound for UK

A man armed with a knife threatened people attempting to cross the English Channel in a small boat from France to the UK on Friday (30 October)

Footage shows the man wading through waist-deep water in Hardelot, France, towards the boat while holding a knife, as a person on board attempted to fend him off by striking him with a boot.

As the man in the water draws back his arm, he appears to drop the knife into the sea.

The incident comes as Channel crossing attempts resumed following a three-week pause due to strong winds and high swells.

Some 263 migrants arrived in the UK on Thursday 29 October.
