Manchester City FC 2 - 0 Everton FC

Manchester City vs Everton

16:23

PENALTY CHECK! Following a dangerous cross from the right by Ndiaye, the ball falls to Garner, whose low shot strikes Bernardo Silva at close range before slipping wide of the left-hand post. The ball did hit the City sub's hand, but he couldn't really get it out of the way; the VAR steps in to back up the referee's decision not to award a penalty.

Goal Erling Haaland

Manchester City vs Everton

16:19

Raiding down the left wing, O'Reilly looks up and clips over an inviting cross for goal-hungry Haaland to head home.

Manchester City vs Everton

16:19

GOAL!!! CITY STRIKE FIRST! Of course, it's Haaland! Netting his 10th Premier League strike of the season, the Norwegian goal machine leaps up near the penalty spot and plants a downward header past Pickford's dangling right boot! It was an excellent cross by O'Reilly, and Haaland certainly made no mistake: 1-0 to Man City!

Manchester City vs Everton

16:19

Substitution Tijjani Reijnders Bernardo Mota Veiga de Carvalho e Silva

Manchester City vs Everton

16:19

Substitution Jérémy Doku Oscar Bobb

Manchester City vs Everton

16:19

Everton take a 40-yard free-kick short, changing the angle before a high ball is delivered to Tarkowski on the right edge of the box. He's hustled off it, though.

Manchester City vs Everton

16:19

Reijnders lunges into a midfield challenge on Garner and concedes a free-kick. However, Everton immediately waste it, allowing City to counter-attack. That move also comes to nothing.

Manchester City vs Everton

16:18

While Haaland has scored nine goals in Man City’s first seven Premier League games this season, no other player has found the net more than once. Can someone step up and make a difference today? Doku and Savinho have looked sharp, but neither is a clinical finisher.

Manchester City vs Everton

16:12

It's a fairly cautious start to the half from both sides, as City try to shift the ball into gaps and build momentum while Everton sit neatly in their defensive shape.

Manchester City vs Everton

16:10

There's a minor scare for the home fans, as Donnarumma cuts it fine when dealing with a back-pass from Ake: by a whisker, he just beats Beto with a low pass across his six-yard box.

Manchester City vs Everton

16:07

Manchester City kick off, and we're back under way at the Etihad!

Manchester City vs Everton

16:02

Man City have won seven of their last eight Premier League home matches, so it would be bold to suggest that Everton are ready to end their 15-year wait for a win at the Etihad. Yet, the Toffees have recently won four of their last seven away games, after coming out on top in just three of the previous 26 - and they've posed plenty of problems on the break today. While they are sorely missing a clinical finisher, City have perhaps the very best. It's nicely set up for an absorbing second half.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:55

Somehow, a lively first half ends goalless at the Etihad, as Manchester City and Everton fail to find the net despite carving out plenty of chances. Both Pickford and Donnarumma had to make saves, while Beto spurned two excellent opportunties as the Toffees defended deep and tried to strike on the counter-attack. For the hosts, Savinho has proved a constant threat and twice had shots saved; Haaland's main contribution was pressuring O'Brien into heading against his own crossbar. Ndiaye also came close for the visitors, who have compiled an xG of 0.66, compared to City's 0.99 so far. All that's missing is a goal, and at least one will surely arrive after the break.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:54

HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER CITY 0-0 EVERTON

Manchester City vs Everton

15:54

SAVE! On the very stroke of half-time, Savinho races inside from the right and brilliantly beats two men. He then fires hard and low towards the target, but Pickford is equal to it once again!

Manchester City vs Everton

15:54

There will be at least two minutes added for stoppages at the end of this eventful - but still goalless - first half.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:54

CLOSE! Ake heads wide! City spurn another chance to score, as Foden's latest corner - this time, an outswinger from the left - picks out Ake near the penalty spot. The latter can only guide his header a few feet wide of the right-hand post!

Manchester City vs Everton

15:52

SHARP STOP! Pickford denies Doku with his legs! Haaland draws defenders with a direct run through the centre, before shifting the ball on to Reijnders. The latter then picks out Doku, whose finish from close range is too tame!

Manchester City vs Everton

15:46

SAVE! When Gueye raids into City's box and delivers a dangerous low cross, Reijnders dives in to make a vital block. Everton regain the ball, though, and danger man Ndiaye beats three men before testing Donnarumma with a rising strike: the Italy captain leaps up to tip it away!

Manchester City vs Everton

15:46

The referee returns to an earlier challenge and issues his first booking: Garner sees yellow for catching Foden on top of his boot.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:43

Just as Doku is lining up a strike from outside the box, urged on by the home fans to shoot, Dewsbury-Hall steals in and does enough to prevent the Belgian winger taking a clean shot.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:39

It's still all City at the Etihad, but Everton have proven pretty solid so far - and they've created two excellent chances. Can either side break this deadlock before half-time?

Manchester City vs Everton

15:39

Foden's latest corner is partly punched away by his England colleague Pickford, who also makes contact with a couple of players en route to the ball. Not quite what he'd planned, but it's relatively effective.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:35

JUST WIDE! Played in by Ndiaye once again, Beto does well to slip away from Ake and line up a low shot. However, he then misses another gilt-edged chance, dragging his angled finish a foot wide of the right-hand post!

Manchester City vs Everton

15:33

A mazy dribble by Savinho initially comes to nothing, but Doku picks up the ball near the right byline and sends in a low pass to Reijnders. Timing his move to perfection, the Dutch midfielder meets the ball with a typical late run into the box, but his shot is then blocked at close range.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:30

City have taken a strong grip of this game now, with a 68% share of possession so far. Doku drives to the byline and tries to engineer a cross, but Tarkowski steps in with a timely block to shut the door.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:30

Once again, Foden sends in a corner - this time from the left. It doesn't match the quality of his previous deliveries, though, and Everton manage to scramble the ball away from immediate danger.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:28

OFF THE BAR! Foden delivers another corner-kick from the right, and Haaland almost rises highest to meet it. However, O'Brien gets there first, and from around 15 yards out he sends the ball crashing against his own crossbar! Everton escape!

Manchester City vs Everton

15:25

Approaching the midpoint of this first half, Manchester City are big favourites to prevail, according to Opta's live win predictor. They have a 63% chance of victory as things stand - compared to just 15% for Everton - and they're looking the more threatening side.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:23

With a free-kick from just inside City's half, Garner lofts over a high, angled ball towards the right edge of the box. City deal with the danger.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:23

As City step up the pace, Reijnders has a shot blocked by Mykolenko, and Haaland can't quite get hold of the rebound. After making a bright start, Everton are being gradually pushed back.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:22

DOUBLE CHANCE! Having slipped away from Mykolenko with a surge down the flank, Savinho then raids into Everton's box before shooting tamely at Pickford. Moments later, Nunes fires low and wide of the left-hand post from just outside the box!

Manchester City vs Everton

15:18

CLOSE! Running free at the back post, Beto can only make minor contact on Ndiaye's low cross! It was a superb run and delivery from the Everton winger, but the centre-forward couldn't quite convert!

Manchester City vs Everton

15:16

Foden tries an ambitious throughball to Doku, who drifts into space near the left byline. However, it sails straight out of play after skipping off the turf.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:14

Allowed to roam inside from full-back, O'Reilly tees up a 20-yard shot. He gets some power behind it, but the connection isn't clean, and his effort slips several feet wide of the right-hand post.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:13

After Foden's mishit cross from the right is cleared away for a corner-kick, the same player slings a high delivery into the box. Everton win the aerial battle, before Alcaraz races away on an attempted counter-attack - City skipper Ruben Dias shuts the door.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:13

Everton's bright spell continues, as Haaland has to step in and make a clearing header inside his own area. Given his awful personal record at this ground, Moyes will be delighted with this start.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:12

Unusually for the hosts, they are having to make do without the ball, as Everton cycle possession around confidently in midfield. It's been a positive start by the Toffees.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:11

Dewsbury-Hall is sent back on, joining a game that has already restarted in his absence. So far, neither side has managed to take any control of the match.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:06

The early action is paused as Dewsbury-Hall stays down on the turf, nursing an injury. After receiving some medical attention, he gingerly makes his way off the pitch - but it doesn't look too serious.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:05

These sides last met in April when Man City left it late to beat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park. In their home fixture last season, City had to settle for a 1-1 draw, with Ndiaye’s equaliser cancelling out Bernardo Silva’s opening goal.

Manchester City vs Everton

15:02

Wearing an all-black kit, Everton kick off: we are under way in Manchester!

Manchester City vs Everton

15:01

Both teams are out on the pitch, so kick-off in this Premier League contest is now just moments away!

Manchester City vs Everton

14:57

Due to the terms of his loan deal, Grealish must miss this game against his parent club, so Alcaraz is among three men brought in to the Everton XI. Dewsbury-Hall is also back in the lineup after serving a one-match suspension, while Beto beats Barry to selection up front. Jarrad Branthwaite is still unavailable, but Rohl has been named on the bench.

Manchester City vs Everton

14:57

Guardiola has made three changes to the City side that beat Brentford: Nico Gonzalez comes in for injured compatriot Rodri, while Ake and Doku also start. After missing several weeks, Marmoush and Ait-Nouri are both back on the bench; fit-again Mateo Kovacic just misses out. Ever present up front, Haaland has scored a staggering 21 goals in just 12 appearances for club and country this season.

Everton ended Crystal Palace’s long unbeaten run last time out, with Man City loanee Jack Grealish dramatically scoring his first goal for the club in second-half stoppage time. A 2-1 comeback win took them up to eighth place - only two points behind today’s hosts, who they can now leapfrog. However, the Toffees last beat City some 16 Premier League meetings ago, while their last win at the Etihad dates back to 2010, when David Moyes was first in charge.

Manchester City vs Everton

14:41

For a few hours at least, Manchester City could climb to the top of the table with a big home win today. That represents a significant turnaround after suffering back-to-back defeats to Tottenham and Brighton at the end of August; since then, City have put together a seven-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. They entered the international break with a 1-0 win at Brentford, as Pep Guardiola celebrated his 250th Premier League success.
