SEN. Bong Go on Wednesday led a relief operation for families displaced by a fire in Barangay Addition Hills.

?Go said visiting the site allowed him to better understand the situation of the survivors and ensure their immediate needs are met.

??I can?t count how many times I?ve been back here in Addition Hills when there?s a fire. I love the people of Mandaluyong City,? the senator said, urging the 198 families affected by the fire to remain hopeful.

Go said visiting the site allowed him to better understand the situation of the survivors and ensure their immediate needs are met.

“I can’t count how many times I’ve been back here in Addition Hills when there’s a fire. I love the people of Mandaluyong City,” the senator said, urging the 198 families affected by the fire to remain hopeful.

“Don’t lose hope. I always say, we can buy the goods, we can earn the money if we work hard. But the money we earn can’t buy life,” he added.

Barangay Addition Hills village chief Carlito Cernal said the community’s dense layout contributed to the rapid spread of the blaze.

“There are 198 families, and the houses are close together. That’s the problem when the houses are close together. When there’s a problem, it’s hard to know where to go,” Cernal said.

The fire victims received food packs, snacks, vitamins, water containers, shirts, fruits, and electric fans. Select beneficiaries received shoes, bicycles, a mobile phone, and a watch. Financial assistance was also provided.

During the relief operation, Go emphasized the importance of strengthening government preparedness for natural and man-made disasters through the implementation of Republic Act (RA) 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act. Go is the principal author and co-sponsor of RA 12076, which mandates the establishment of permanent, disaster-resilient, and fully equipped evacuation centers across the country.
