JOHOR BARU, July 10 — A policeman was seriously injured after he was stabbed by an unknown assailant during a pre-dawn narcotics operation along Jalan Kuil in Kampung Wadi Hana in the city here today.
The policeman, who is attached to the Johor Baru South district police, is reported to be in a critical but stable condition after the weapon narrowly missed his kidneys.
A source said the victim, a constable in his 20s, was at a car park on Jalan Kuil at 3.15am with several other police personnel during the ‘Op Tapis Khas’ operation.
“An unknown man suddenly came up to the policeman and stabbed him from the back with a sharp object, believed to be a knife.
“The assailant immediately fled the scene after the attack and could not be identified as the area was dark.
“The policeman’s team members then requested for an ambulance before issuing an all-points bulletin for the suspect,” said the source to Malay Mail today.
It is learnt that the Johor police contingent’s central command centre (CCC) has alerted all police districts in the Johor Baru vicinity to be on the lookout for the suspect.
The Johor Baru South police has also mounted a manhunt for the suspect.
Police are expected to issue a press release on the incident.
Ops Tapis Khas is an ongoing nationwide police operation targeting the narcotics trade and illicit drug activities.
The special operation includes detecting and arresting drug dealers in identified hotspots, eliminating drug dens, acting on hardcore addicts and arresting those wanted for drug offences.
