Manila pays tribute to 'Da King' Fernando Poe Jr. on birth anniversary

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila (Dtcam) paid tribute to the late Fernando Poe Jr. on his 87th birthday.

Also known as the King of Philippine Movies, Poe died in 2004. He was posthumously conferred the title of National Artist for Film.

"In his movies, it was not only the courage and kindness of a hero that was shown—he embodied the story of the ordinary Filipino. Many of his characters reflect...the strength of Manileños," the Dtcam said on Facebook.

"Happy 87th birthday, Da King!" it said.
