MANILA Water Co. Inc. on Wednesday said it had completed construction of its 1,200-millimeter (mm) diameter submarine pipelines for the East Bay Phase 2 project.
The company said this would increase its capability to convey water across the East Bay area and also improve system reliability and operational flexibility amid challenges posed by a severe El Niño.
The completed submarine transmission system is composed of the Central and West segments, which together span approximately 31.5 kilometers and convey treated water from the East Bay Water Treatment Plant in Pakil, Laguna, toward Taguig City.
Manila Water said the Central Bay segment involved the installation of a 1,200-mm diameter steel pipeline extending 13.2 kilometers from Jala-Jala, Rizal, to the Binangonan Peninsula, at a cost of more than P2.40 billion.
The West Bay segment involved the installation of an 18.3-kilometer, 1,200-mm-diameter steel pipeline extending from the Binangonan Peninsula to an onshore landing point in Taguig City for P3.30 billion.
"The submarine transmission lines are a vital component of the East Bay Phase 2 project, serving as the critical link that will enable treated water from Laguna Lake to reach communities across our service area," said Dittie Galang, corporate communications head at Manila Water.
The company’s shares on Wednesday dipped P0.75, or 2.28 percent, to close at P32.20 apiece.
