Manslaughter charge after elderly woman dies following attack at railway station

  • An 87-year-old great-grandmother, Dorothy Chiles, died six weeks after being assaulted at Birmingham New Street station.
  • Ms Chiles suffered a broken hip during the incident, which occurred around 11 am on 19 November 2024.
  • She underwent surgery and was discharged from hospital but passed away at home on 27 December.
  • Charlie Lane, 26, has been charged with manslaughter and a racially aggravated public order offence in connection with her death.
  • Lane, of Marlborough Road, Gloucester, was released on conditional bail and is due to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on 30 April.
