Mapped: Where temperatures will hit 29C in July heatwave

Temperatures are set to rise again as another heatwave is in store for the UK, with the capital set to face scorching heat.

While the south and southeast stay mostly drier and warm weekend, the Met Office said conditions in the north and west are forecast to turn more changeable, with showers or longer spells of rain - heaviest and most frequent.

Temperatures will be a hot in the capital but more variable across the country on Saturday (Met Office)

Rain and showers are forecast for Scotland and Northern parts of England on Saturday and Sunday, as temperatures sit at a mild 17C in Glasgow.

Temperatures are set to be more variable in the south west and further north as temperatures remain in the low twenties for Cardiff and Manchester.

But in the south it will stay largely dry as temperatures start to increase again.

Temperature forecast on Sunday (Met Office)

Sunday’s forecast shows temperatures hanging around 28C in the capital by 4pm, before jumping to 29C the same time on Monday.

Tony Wisson, Met Office deputy chief forecaster, said: “Toward the weekend, high pressure will continue to build in across most of the UK as it extends from the Azores. This will lead to more settled, warm or very warm conditions for many, especially across England and Wales, though some rain may still affect the far north.”

The capital will see highs of 29C on Monday (Met Office)

He added: “The forecast for this weekend suggests that temperatures could approach high 20s°C across parts of England, perhaps 30°C in parts of the southeast, with values of mid to high 20s°C in Wales.”

It comes as the Met Office marked the hottest June on record for England, and the second warmest in Wales. Temperatures broke the previous record of 35.6C set in Southampton in June 1976 on three consecutive days last week, with a new record temperature provisionally set in Lingwood, Norfolk, on Friday, as the mercury climbed to 37.7C.
