Marcos’ approval rating stays at 18%

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s approval rating remained at 18 percent in the third quarter, while his trust rating rose by 1 percentage point to 13 percent, according to a Publicus Asia survey that showed generally low ratings for the country’s top government officials.

The Pahayag third quarter survey, conducted from Oct. 1 to 4, found that Vice President Sara Duterte had an approval rating of 29 percent, up from 28 percent in the previous quarter, while her trust rating remained at 27 percent.

Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, meanwhile, recorded declines — his approval rating fell to 26 percent from 32 percent, while his trust rating dropped to 17 percent from 21 percent.

House Speaker Faustino Dy III registered an approval rating of 13 percent and a trust rating of 8 percent, while Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo received 18 percent approval and 11 percent trust.

The figures distinguish respondents’ assessments of officials’ performance from their willingness to place trust in them, with both measures remaining low among several top national officials.

Among government institutions, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) recorded the highest approval rating at 59 percent and the highest trust rating at 41 percent.

The Department of Science and Technology followed with 49 percent approval and 32 percent trust.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) received 46 percent approval and 32 percent trust, while the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas posted 46 percent approval and 31 percent trust.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) had the lowest institutional approval rating at 19 percent, followed by the House of Representatives and the Senate, both at 22 percent.

In terms of trust, the Senate and DPWH ranked lowest at 12 percent each, followed by the House of Representatives at 13 percent.

The results showed contrasting public assessments of government institutions, with education- and science-related agencies and the central bank receiving higher ratings than several major political institutions and the public works department.

The survey covered 1,581 registered Filipino voters drawn from the market research panel maintained by PureSpectrum’s Singapore office.

Publicus Asia described Pahayag as an independent, non-commissioned quarterly survey using nationwide purposive sampling.
