Marcos arrives in New York for UN engagements

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. arrived in New York for his engagements in the United Nations where he is expected to participate in high-level discussions, including the situation in the Middle East and women’s rights.

The chartered flight carrying Marcos and his delegation touched down at the Newark Liberty International Airport at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday (New York time).

On his agenda during his two-day working visit are his attendance to the opening of the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) where he will reaffirm the Philippines’ support to efforts championing the rights and empowerment of women and girls.

He is also slated to meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and is expected to highlight the country’s commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation as well as reiterate his administration’s call for rules-based international order and end to conflicts.

The president will likewise take the floor at the special session of he UN General Assembly to push the country’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2027 to 2028.

Apart from his UN-related activities, Marcos will also be having meetings with American business leaders.

The chief executive is accompanied by First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos; Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro; Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac; Presidential peace adviser Carlito Galvez Jr.; and Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Dave Gomez.
