MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will meet Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan in Malacanang but it is not clear whether he was "summoned" after the clash in Ayungin Shoal although a Palace official said the schedule has been sey even before the incident.
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro, in a text message, said the President was set to meet Jing at 5 p.m. but did not elaborate.
The meeting comes a day after a member of the Chinese Coast Guard wielded a baton and injured a Philippine Navy personnel during an encounter at the Ayungin Shoal on Monday and a China Daily AI-generated video that depicted the Filipinos as monkeys.
The President had said he would not summon the Chinese ambassador despite the controversies.
