MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. brushed off claims he is pushing the “no election” scenario to extend his stay in office.
It was his sister, Sen. Imee Marcos, who claimed that the president and his allies are pushing to amend the constitution to let him stay in power.
The President left for a four-day state visit to Japan on Tuesday.
“It forms part of a broader foreign policy agenda to forge closer political ties, stronger defense and security cooperation, and more enduring economic partnership with major countries in the region in order to advance the interest of the Filipino people in promoting regional peace, prosperity and stability,” Marcos said during the send-off ceremony held at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.
The president is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
