MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. floated the idea of utilizing nuclear energy, stressing the need to diversify the country’s energy source.
During his visit at the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute (SNRSI) on Saturday, Marcos highlighted the country’s need to learn from Singapore’s capabilities in nuclear technology.
“Our goal is to secure an energy future where Filipino families and businesses have access to sufficient, affordable and dependable electricity, with safety remaining our highest priority,” said Marcos in a Facebook post after his visit.
“As our economy grows, so does our need for reliable, affordable and cleaner energy,” he added.
He further noted that Filipinos are now more receptive to the use of nuclear power as an energy source.
The chief executive said that the country is already in the first two phases of nuclear adoption preparations.
