MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. confirmed on Friday that he has signed Mary Jane Veloso’s absolute pardon after 15 years in jail for drug trafficking.
“I already signed her pardon yesterday,” Marcos said in Filipino during an interview.
Malacañang confirmed that Marcos was “seriously considering” granting an absolute pardon to Veloso on humanitarian grounds.
Veloso was arrested and sentenced to death for drug trafficking in Indonesia back in 2010. Her sentence was reduced to imprisonment on the intervention of the Philippine government and spent nearly 15 years in jail. She was repatriated to the Philippines in December 2024.
