PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inspected the Navotas Fish Port Complex (NFPC) in Navotas City, a vital fish trading and distribution hub in the country to assess the facility’s operations and ongoing rehabilitation to ensure its infrastructure keeps pace with the growing demands of the fisheries sector.
President Marcos’ inspection on Saturday night was part of the administration’s continued effort to develop public infrastructure that supports the fisheries sector and helps ensure an adequate and steady supply of various seafood products for Filipinos.
“The Navotas Fish Port Complex plays a vital role as one of the country’s primary fish trading and distribution hubs. That is why we personally inspected the ongoing rehabilitation of its facilities to ensure our infrastructure keeps pace with the growing demands of the fisheries sector,” the President said in a statement.
“A modernized and improved port will lead to safer and more efficient operations, uplift the livelihoods of our fisherfolk, traders, and others dependent on the fishing industry, and guarantee a steady supply of quality food for our fellow citizens,” he added.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. accompanied the President.
The NFPC’s rehabilitation and expansion project aims to transform the country’s premier fish port into a safer, more efficient, and climate-resilient fisheries hub by constructing and upgrading market halls, wharves, breakwater facilities, utility and administrative buildings, and other essential port infrastructure.
Once completed, the upgraded fish port is expected to strengthen food security, promote sustainable fisheries development and enhance the competitiveness of the country’s largest fish port, according to the Palace.
Operated by the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority, the complex is the country’s premier fish trading center and vital hub in the distribution of seafood across Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
