MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inspected the newly constructed Felipe Abrigo Memorial Hospital (FAMH) in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, which Super Typhoon ‘Yolanda’ destroyed in 2013.
During his visit on Friday, Marcos said the new facility “rose from the ruins” thanks to the help of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and then-senator and current Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonnt Angara for their donations.
“This is that rose from the ruins of the original hospital that’s completely destroyed by Yolanda, and we are grateful, of course, to the Korean assistance we received; ambassador is also here, KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency), and of course, with the help of the national government,” said Marcos.
“Coincidentally, a big part of the assistance that came from then-Senator Sonny Angara who is here because we are going to visit the school later on,” he added.
The modern facilities feature new medical equipment—including an emergency room, operating rooms, wards, and a dental clinic—to address the diverse needs of patients.
The hospital is expected to fully open on October 8, and aims to bring quality and affordable healthcare services to residents of Eastern Samar and neighboring areas.
