Marcos leads commemoration of National Heroes Day

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday urged Filipinos to keep the “flame of patriotism alive” as the country marked National Heroes Day.

The President called on Filipinos not only to commemorate the day, but to keep fighting for the nation.

“Today, I call on every Filipino to do more than remember our brave national heroes. Let us also renew our solemn duty to carry forward the nation for which they fought and sacrificed,” he said in a statement.

“Our forebears won our freedom, defended our dignity, and laid the foundations of the Republic we cherish. We honor them best by embodying their courage, keeping the flame of patriotism alive, and becoming the citizens our country needs,” he added.

Marcos said that the spirit of heroism lives on through Filipino workers in the frontlines.
