MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday led the launch of Walang Gutom Kitchen in Cebu City, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to addressing hunger.
Joined by Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Marcos toured the facility, observed its operations, distributed meals, and met with beneficiaries and local officials.
The facility is the second Walang Gutom Kitchen in the country after the first opened in Pasay City in December 2024.
Operated by the DSWD, the community-based food bank provides free, nutritious breakfast and lunch daily to identified beneficiaries and walk-in clients experiencing involuntary hunger.
The initiative is part of the government’s Walang Gutom Program, the national anti-hunger initiative launched in 2023 and institutionalized through Executive Order No. 44 in 2024 to help reduce food insecurity among Filipino families.
The DSWD said the facility also serves homeless individuals and other vulnerable sectors by providing immediate access to nutritious meals.
It will also serve as a center for other social services under the Pag-abot Program and Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program to provide beneficiaries with immediate assistance and other necessary services.
