MANILA, Philippines—President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday led the opening of the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway-C5 Southlink Segment, a two-kilometer stretch connecting the cities of Parañaque and Taguig.

The President said the thoroughfare is expected to cut travel time from one and a half hours to just 15 minutes.

“About 36,000 vehicles will pass through here. So, this is a big deal because it will decongest, reduce traffic on small roads,” Marcos said in Filipino following the inspection.

“And that's a huge thing because of the big savings in commuter time. Second, because of the turmoil in the Middle East, it's a huge savings in gasoline, in crude oil, in fuel,” he added.

Marcos announced that this segment of the expressway would be toll-free for the whole month of April.
