Marcos leads situation briefing on Mayon

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday convened the heads of different agencies in Malacañang for a situation briefing on the ongoing unrest of Mayon Volcano.

He reiterated his directive for a coordinated response to the impact of ashfall, pyroclastic density currents, and the threat of lahar in some parts of Albay.

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), frontline agencies have conducted evacuation, relief and medical operations, distribution of masks and clean water, and deployment of mobile clinics, Starlink units, and water purification systems for affected communities.

“The DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways), PCG (Philippine Coast Guard), and BFP (Bureau of Fire Protection) also continued their clearing operations and strictly enforced a 6-kilometer danger zone, while PHIVOLCS monitored the situation. Government agencies will ensure continuous assistance and speedy recovery of affected areas,” the PCO said.
