Marcos on another Senate coup: Let’s wait and see

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday held off any comment amid the unpredictability in the Senate, particularly the issue on leadership.

“I guess we'll just have to wait and see," Marcos, who was at the ‘Bawat Bayan Makikinabang’ event in Mandaluyong City, told reporters when sought for his comment on the possibility of yet another change in leadership.

Last week, the Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano-led bloc ousted Sen. Vicente Sotto 3rd as Senate president in a dramatic leadership shake-up seen to be tied to the impeachment trial of Sara Duterte.

The deciding vote came when Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, after months of hiding to avoid arrest over an International Criminal Court-related warrant tied to the Duterte drug war, showed up and helped install Cayetano.

However, Cayetano is in danger of losing his post after Senators JV Ejercito and Migz Zubiri, who previously declared themselves independent, said they are joining the minority bloc.

This leaves the minority just two members short of a leadership change.
