Marcos orders probe, tighter security after Tacloban school shooting

MANILA, Philippines —  President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a thorough investigation into the school shooting in Tacloban City and directed authorities to strengthen security measures, particularly in schools, Malacañang said on Monday.

The directive came after the Palace received news that at least two were dead and several others were injured following the incident that happened at the San Jose National High School.

“The president is saddened by the incident. Anyone, especially the parents of the victims, will feel the sadness and fear.,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said in Filipino in a statement.

Marcos, she further noted, tasked authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The chief executive likewise ordered concerned agencies to ensure the protection and safety of the public in all places, including government offices, business establishments, and especially educational institutions.

“A thorough investigation is ordered and the protection and safety of the people must be ensured in all areas, offices, establishments, especially schools.,” Castro said.
