Marcos pushes upskilling, credential recognition for Filipinos in Canada

VANCOUVER, Canada — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday (Saturday in Manila) pushed for the continuous upskilling and professional development for Filipinos in Canada, saying investments in workers' skills are key to expanding employment opportunities and improving the lives of their families.

Speaking before members of the Filipino community here, Marcos said one of the priorities discussed with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was making professional credential recognition and certification more accessible to Filipino workers seeking to advance their careers.

The President said Philippine officials continued to work with their Canadian counterparts to simplify information, support services, and processing for Filipino professionals, particularly nurses and other skilled workers who wish to practice in Canada.

He also highlighted the role of Philippine diplomatic posts in helping overseas Filipinos remain competitive in a rapidly changing labor market.

"Our consulate offers free training activities as well where our Kababayans are able to receive training certificates that are valid and recognized by the Canadian government and employers. It's a positive development," the President said.

"This especially during this time where we need to continually upskill and retool ourselves in

order to meet competency standards and cope with rapidly evolving job requirements brought about by technology," he added.
