Marcos pushes use of nuclear energy to lower electricity cost

MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday pushed for the further study on the use of nuclear energy to lower electricity cost.

“Perhaps it is time for us to revisit nuclear energy production. We are already using nuclear energy in the fields of medicine, agriculture, water filtration, and the upcycling of plastic,” the chief executive said in his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA).

“We are confident in its capacity to reinforce our energy security and bring down the cost of electricity in our country,” he added.

Acknowledging the safety concerns of various sectors, Marcos vowed that the government would exhaust all means to ensure the public would have more benefits than setbacks.

“We will ensure that it is safe. We will also ensure that the benefits of nuclear energy are clearly explained to the public,” the president said.
