MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his support for the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region parliamentary elections scheduled on September 14, 2026.
Speaking at the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang and the Bangsamoro Government Convergence Program in Maguindanao del Norte, Marcos stressed the importance of sustaining the partnership between the national government and the Bangsamoro government.
“We are determined that we will push through with the second Monday of September,” Marcos said.
He said that the election would bring the region closer to its goal of having a duly elected parliament.
He said amendments to the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) were enacted after the Supreme Court ruled on the territorial composition of the region, which aims to pave the way for the legal and administrative adjustments needed for a credible and inclusive election. He added that the election aims to fulfill the “democratic aspirations of the Bangsamoro people.”
Special Assistant to the President Anton Lagdameo Jr. introduced Marcos to BARMM officials and leaders, as well as local stakeholders.
During the event, Marcos also addressed the implementation of the Bawat Barangay Makikinabang Program, which will provide P200,000 to each village to expand government services. Half of the budget allocation will be for educational assistance, which will include five Presidential Scholars per village, while the other half will go to community-identified priorities. Marcos also lauded the delivery of various frontline services by regional ministries and offices, including assistance programs for local beneficiaries.
He referred to efforts by the government, including the Iftar Program, social services, medical missions, and support for Hajj registrants, as part of its efforts to respect and support the cultural and religious traditions of Muslim communities.
“Together, let us build a Bagong Pilipinas where every Filipino lives with dignity, realizes their aspirations, and shares in lasting peace and inclusive progress,” he said, adding that the government will continue to work with the Bangsamoro government in promoting peace, strengthening governance, and improving the quality of life of the residents in the region.
